The project aims at an interdisciplinary approach to the development of new classes of inhibitors of voltage gated calcium channels (VGCCs) and the study of their properties in relation to chronic pain. The organic chemistry part focuses on the development of novel radical amination methodologies for the synthesis of small organic molecules with heterocyclic skeletons, and the elucidation of their mechanism. The resulting library will be studied with respect to the pharmacological activity of calcium ion channels and their in vivo analgesic properties.
The candidate holds a PhD degree in organic chemistry and has strong expertise in organic chemistry, is interested in methodology development and mechanism elucidation, can independently design and perform syntheses of complex molecules, develop synthetic methodology, has experience with all relevant analytical and lab techniques, and is able to analyze and summarize experimental data. The candidate collaborates and participates in group activities, is organized, self-motivated, and enthusiastic to be part of an organic chemistry project linked to drug discovery and can communicate and write proficiently in English.
