University College Dublin-Ireland

Description

The Materials Design and Processing Group (led by Dr Mert Celikin) at UCD School of Mechanical and Materials Engineering is currently seeking a research engineer, interested in developing a fundamental understanding in metal binder-jetting technology for biomedical applications, to work on an exciting project towards Additive Manufacturing of Stainless-Steel tools for biomedical applications. The post is available from March 2025 (or earlier) for 2 years. The ideal candidate should have a PhD in Materials Science and Engineering, Chemistry with research experience in low-temperature additive manufacturing (i.e. Metal Binder Jetting) or metal injection moulding (MIM). The researcher work is funded by I-Form Advanced Manufacturing Research Centre (www.i-form.ie) through Taighde Éireann – Research Ireland (formerly Science Foundation Ireland) and I-Form industry partner Stryker.

Eligibility criteria

* PhD Degree in Materials Science and Engineering / Metallurgical Engineering / Chemistry.
* Experience in metal powder-based low-temperature processing techniques (i.e., Powder Metallurgy, Metal Injection Moulding, Metal Binder-jetting, Fused Deposition Modelling of Metallic components).
* Experience with Metal Powder Sintering.
* Excellent communication skills (oral, written, presentation etc).
* Proven track record in analytical writing.
* Excellent analytical skills.
* Excellent organisational and administrative skills including a proven ability to work to deadlines.
* An understanding of the operational requirements for a successful research project.
